Who is Trump going to pick for Secretary of Education? Will he pick anyone at all?

By Andrew Pillow

Trump has already outlined his plan for the first 100 days of his presidency. His plan included a fairly ambitious plan for education. Who will he get to carry out his education plan? Below are some of the names being floated for Secretary of Education. Some of the names he has volunteered to the media. Other names have frequently come up in the conversation.

Michelle Rhee

  • -          Former chancellor of D.C. schools
  • -          Founder of StudentsFirst
  • -          Founder of The New Teacher Project

Eva Moskowitz

  • -          Founder of Success Academy network of “No excuses” charter schools
  • -          Former New York City Council-member

Williamson Evers

  • -          Hoover Institute Fellow
  • -          Former Assistant Secretary of Education

Kevin Chavous

  • -          Former head of D.C. Council’s education committee
  • -          Education Reform Activist
  • -          School Choice Advocate
  • -          (Indianapolis Native)

If the names listed above are indeed on the short list for Trump’s cabinet, it would be a complete 180 from his campaign promises. Trump had pledged to eliminate the Department of Education, even having a short list would appear to be contrary to that goal. He also pledged to get rid of Common Core, but most of the people being floated could be described as pro common core.
