President Elect Trump has made his secretary of education pick. Like everything else he does, some people like it and some people hate it.

Betsy DeVos will be the head of the US department of Education in Trump’s administration. DeVos is a billionaire, businesswoman, and education activist. Probably best known for being the daughter of Amway founder Richard DeVos, Betsy DeVos is not without her own resume.

Career experience:

  • Chair of a privately held operating group that invests in technology and clean energy.
  • Served as chair of the Michigan Republican Party.

Stances:

  • Strong supporter of school vouchers and charter schools
  • Does not support common core
  • Supports homeschooling

What her goals as secretary of education will be remain to be seen but her appointment is in line with the goals Trump cited in his first 100 days plan.
