Education Secretary Tells Charter Schools to Rethink Discipline Policies

Secretary of Education John King, has issued a call to charter schools to examine their discipline policies. Almost everybody in Ed-Reform circles is familiar with criticisms of charter schools, especially when it comes to discipline.

King question the “Zero Tolerance” policies in particular.

"Yet the public discussion of these issues is often binary – pitting one extreme against another. It's 'zero tolerance' or chaos. Authoritarian control or no discipline at all." King says.

King has been actively trying to get all schools to look at their discipline policies. This comes on the heels of data revealing that students of color are disproportionally effected by suspensions.
