The Mind Trust has a goal of, “creating great public schools for every student.” To show the public what makes a great public school, they offer educational bus tours. These tours allow stakeholders to see up close the elements of an excellent public school in Indianapolis. These tours are co-sponsored by Indianapolis Public Schools, United Negro College Fund (UNCF) , 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, La Plaza and The Expectations Project.
I attended a Mind Trust tour a few years ago to tour the school I attended in first grade, Brookside Elementary School #54 and Paramount School of Excellence. As a participant on the tour, I was able to speak to students and staff. Participants were also able to ask tough questions to school administration.
The tours thus far have included public charter schools and public schools in IPS. I hope in the future excellent schools from the other 10 school districts within Indianapolis’ boundaries will be included.
Click here for information about the next tour on November 15 featuring Edison School of the Arts (IPS #47) and Enlace Academy. If you attend, let me know. I would love to tell your story.
