Enroll Indy

Indiana is leading the nation in schools choice options. Being a parent who has exercised school choice, I understand with many options come lots of footwork for parents to explore those options. I remember going to school websites, visiting multiple schools and calling with questions regarding transportation, aftercare, and extracurricular activities.  That's in addition to completing the application for each school and keeping track of the different submission deadlines. This required a great deal of time and effort which added another task on the long to-do list for each day.

Good news there is a new website called Enrollindy.org. It has a comprehensive list of information about Indianapolis Public Schools and public charter schools. For the first time, parents have all the statistics and programs for Indianapolis Public Schools and charter schools in one location. Once registered, parents can apply to several different schools without having to enter the same information for each school.

...so how does it work?

Parents should visit Enrollindy.org. If your child is a current Indianapolis Public Schools student, you will need their student ID number.  This can be obtained by calling 317-226-4000. Parents then can check off a number of preferences from transportation provided to before and after school care being provided.

Once you have entered your family’s preferences, a list of schools that meets your criteria is provided.  The list will show what each school has to offer along with the school’s letter for the previous year.

The deadline for applications is January 15. If you are not tech savvy or do not have access to the internet,  there is one more mobile intake event to assist families with registering with Enroll Indy. It will be located at Church El Lirio De Los Valles at 435 N. Lynhurst Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46224 on January 10, 2018 from 6:30-8 p.m. All intake sessions are offered in both English and Spanish.

After browsing the Enroll Indy website, I really wish it was available during my previous school searches for my children and I will definitely use this as a tool in a few years when I will again face the decision of the best high school for my youngest son. If you cannot attend the January 10 mobile intake session, the staff at Enroll Indy will be happy to assist you with any questions or enrollment at their office located at 120 E. Walnut Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
